Red rose hips

In the world wars of the 20th Century, the rose hips very important - they were collected in the fall because of the rare vitamin C. Its small, yellow fruits were carefully detached and used as tea.

When the image was painted in 1959, nobody remembered. No other artist noticed them yet. Fridel Dethleffs-Edelmann knew their value: She painted the harvested fields and meadows in their gorgeous autumnal colors. Above are now forgotten these free gifts of autumn nature.
