Fridel Dethleffs-Edelmann was given the task of drawing teacher at the slowly emerging school in Isny after the end of World War II in 1945. For several years she then awakened the joy of drawing and painting for the children - and also for Ursula. First, the school hours took place in the old kindergarten. After the French army took over the house of Dethleff, previously known as French. Command had been confiscated and returned to the Dethleffs family, the teacher moved with her students to the Dethleffs family's studio in Wolfsbühl. For Fridel Dethleffs-Edelmann, this had the advantage that she no longer had to get up early. For the schoolchildren, the house with the large garden was always a new experience.

Ursula spoke from this time with several woodcuts under the title "Children's Painting School".

The first woodcut was made in 1950 - it had different titles: "Children in the painting school"; "Children's painting school with their pictures" and "Children show their pictures".
